They say that your health is the most important and precious thing you can have, but have you wondered why? Have you ever disregarded your health because of your busy work schedule? Are you one of those people that struggles to find a balance between work and personal life? This was the topic discussed by Pixel Dreams’ Starfleet Captain, Khalid.

The Pixel Dream team and I were invited to listen to an important finding of his – that there’s more to living a healthy life than we think. As the CEO of the company, Khalid has many responsibilities, which require him to perform at a high-intensity level day in day out. For a long while, he’d realize that his emotions were unstable from time to time. On some days, he’d go though battles of depression and anxiety while swinging to super happy optimistic and positive during others. He wanted to find stabilization in his life and one day during his worst anxiety and depression moment; he received a glimpse of logic and light. During this time, he made notes, observed his surroundings, did months of intense research on neurology, biology and spirituality, tried out new things and eventually, came to the order of four. Khalid explained to the rest of the team that there are four types of health that should be taken care of everyday. Some of them are more important than others but all of them are vital for living a balanced life.

Physical health is the first and also the most important kind of health. Our physiology affects our thought patterns as well as our emotions. It’s a known fact that the older a person gets, the harder it becomes for that individual to perform day-to-day tasks. The solution is simple – you need to start moving around more frequently during the day. You should be working out regularly to keep your vitality level on point. If your blood isn’t circulating quickly on a daily basis, it is likely you will start feeling depressed or unmotivated because your mental and emotional health will mimic the lack of activity and serotonin in your body.

Spiritual health is the second most important type of health on the list. Many people have doubts when it comes to being spiritual but the fact is, the act of meditating actually strengthens the pre-frontal cortex in your brain. This allows the user to manage emotions and rationality in difficult situations better than the non-meditator. From a personal experience, I can tell you that allowing myself to meditate on a day-to-day basis has not only given me a sense of serenity, it has also had an overall positive effect on my life.

The third on our list is mental health – something that often gets pushed aside. People in today’s society are so obsessed with their physical attributes that they have forgotten about their mental attributes as well. Exercising your brain is just as important as exercising your body. Much like going to the gym to work out our muscles, something as simple as studying allows the user to continuously keep the brain active and healthy. A good way to do this is by learning to build healthy habits or to try to learn something new everyday. Acquiring as much knowledge as you can on a daily basis keeps your mind sharp and vigorous.

Finally, our fourth and final type is emotional health. If you take care of your physical, spiritual and mental health, chances are your emotional health will follow suit. Keep in mind that your emotional state is all chemical, so if your emotions are spiraling, ask yourself where the chemical imbalance could be occurring and find a way to deal with it. It’s all about perspective and perception. Remember that a person is at their weakest point when they are overcome by too much of any emotion – try not to let that happen.

Well, there you have it. As long as you have your physical, spiritual, mental and emotional health in check, you will be able to find balance in life.
